List of requirements

Step One

1. Do the following:

   1. Recite the verse Bereishis from the “12 Pesukim” and explain its meaning.
   2. Summarize the first explanation of Rashi on Chumash and its significance.
2. Find Eretz Yisroel on a map of the world. Tell where it was found in ancient maps and why.
3. Explain the connection of the following to Eretz Yisroel:

   1. Adam Harishon
   2. Noach
   3. Avrohom
   4. Yitzchok
   5. Yaakov
   6. Yosef
   7. Yehoshua
4. Name the four Holy Cities.
5. Name three (3) biblical landmarks in Eretz Yisroel and where they are located.
6. Explain the following:

   1. the importance of living in Eretz Yisroel;
   2. the reason that the entire Jewish people does not live there today;
   3. at what point we will all live there.

Step Two

1. Name five (5) verses which mention the Jews' possession of Eretz Yisroel.
2. Recite three names for the Eretz Yisroel and the reason for each name.
3. Explain the connection of the following to Eretz Yisroel:

   1. Moshe Rabbeinu
   2. Kalev ben Yefuneh
   3. Yehoshua
   4. King Dovid
   5. Ezra
4. Locate the following on a map of Eretz Yisroel:

   1. the four Holy Cities;
   2. three (3) other biblical cities.
5. Name five (5) biblical landmarks outside of Yerushalayim and tell where they are located.
6. Name the Seven Species for which Eretz Yisroel is praised.
7. Show your knowledge of the following laws:

   1. the number of days which residents of Eretz Yisroel keep for each Yom Tov;
   2. what must be done when visiting Yerushalayim and the Western Wall;
   3. when is one allowed to leave Eretz Yisroel.
   4. What must be done to protect Eretz Yisroel and its residents.

Step Three

1. Describe the colors and designs of the flags of the Twelve Tribes.
2. Explain the significance of land conquered by the Jewish people in recent history and why it must be kept.
3. On a map of Eretz Yisroel, locate the following:

   1. three seas;
   2. ten (10) cities containing biblical landmarks;
   3. the six (6) Cities of Refuge;
4. Describe the following mitzvos:
1. Separation of bikurim (first fruits);
2. Separation of terumah and maaser (tithes);
3. Shemitah (sabbatical year);
4. Yovel (jubilee year).
5. Explain under which circumstances a non-Jew may or may not reside in Eretz Yisroel.
6. Explain what you can do to support Eretz Yisroel and its residents according to the Torah.
7. Explain the reasons for which many Jewish leaders did not move to Eretz Yisroel, even when they had the opportunity.
